How To Thin Latex Paint

Thanks to the clean-up & short drying time, Latex Paint has an upper hand over oil-based paint for easy weekend projects. The water-based products also have a downside, it tends to show thicken when it is stored without an airtight seal at below the freezing temperature for an extended period.

The consistency of the process changes occurs, because of the heavy paint particles settled at the point of the can. While the solvent rises to the top is a problem for reasons like gooey paint will not work readily with the rollers, sprayers & brushers. Another reason, it looks rough & bumpy when applied to a surface.

A commercial paint thinner can loosen up the latex paint, there is an easy & quick way to retrieve the can yourself with a few household products. Here is a guide of how to thin latex paint that you can apply.

Combine the water & paint with a stir stick by using a downward & upward spiral motion. Remove the stir stick from a point can & hold it over a paper tray or paint tray. If the paint readily sprinkles off the stir stick, then it is ready for the application.
