How To Hook Up A Water Line to a Refrigerator

Envisage the convenience of having cold water or ice cubes you want them any time. There is no need to fill up pitchers to keep the refrigerator or waiting for the ice cube trays to freeze. Once you have purchased a refrigerator with an automatic ice maker & a cold water dispenser, you’ll still need a way to get water into it. You can also hook a water line up to your refrigerator on your own:

  1. Cease the water supply.
  2. Discover the cold water source closest to the refrigerator. You will want to use water lines that are already in the place if possible, sooner than attempting to install new pipes.
  3. Awl a hole either through the cabinet wall separating the space under the sink & the refrigerator or in the basement ceiling up to the refrigerator. Threading copper tubing through the hole you have just drilled.
  4. Attach one end of the copper tubing to the refrigerator’s water pipe, using a ferrule & nut. Ensure that you leave extra tubing coiled behind the refrigerator, so you can move the refrigerator when necessary.
  5. Cut the cold water line under the sink or in the basement & attach a copper T-fitting.
  6. Attach a water valve to the T-fitting. It will control the flow of water & the pressure of water to the refrigerator. Ensure to put a gasket seal between the t-fitting & the valve. Affix the free end of copper tubing to the valve. Now the refrigerator is connected.
  7. Clasp any tubing inside the cabinets along with the back of the cabinets, just to keep it in the place.
  8. Turn on the water supply. You should have cold water in a short period as you will have to wait for 1-2 hours before having ice.
